Hernandez has a lean, athletic build at 5-foot-11 170-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 6.99-seconds and recorded an exit velocity of 80 MPH. Offensively – LHH starts in a wide stance with weight on back side and hands above back shoulder. Creates some rhythm in his hands prepitch. As pitch comes in, uses a leg kick and stride to start swing, hand load is fluid as hands travel up and back with some rhythm. Smooth, effortless stroke through the zone. Line drive hitter that will develop into a gap to gap hitter as he continues to grow into frame. Defensively – took reps at SS and behind the plate. Throws from SS topped at 80 MPH on the bag with a long arm action. Bouncy, up tempo infielder with a relentless motor, Hernandez attacks the ball with aggressiveness and plays through his throws to first base. From behind the plate, throws topped at 74 MPH. Pop times were consistently between 2.00-2.2 both in the skills workout and during gameplay. Throws had backspin and were on target to second base.
Futures Preview South (June 4th, 2017)
Hernandez has a lean, projectable build at 5-foot-9 160-pounds. Ran the 60 in 7.25-seconds, recorded an exit velocity of 80 MPH. At the plate, starts in a wide stance with a slight bend to his knees and hands/bat high above back shoulder. As pitch comes in, uses a leg kick and stride to start swing, hands load back slightly. LHH shows some fluidity in hands, hips and arms in bat path. Balanced finish with some lift to swing. Effortless with swing mechanics and finish, expect Hernandez's power to increase as he continues to fill out frame. Defensively, took reps at shortstop and behind the plate. At SS, shows some bounce to step, high energy type of player. Throws topped at 80 MPH across the diamond with some armside run. Longer arm action. From behind the plate, Hernandez topped at 74 MPH down to 2B. recorded pop times between 1,93-2.06. Athleticism is present, especially on blocking technique. Interesting prospect to follow.
