2017 New Jersey State Games (July 26-27, 2017)
Spina has a broad shouldered, athletic build at 6-foot-3 205-pounds. Fastball topped at 85 MPHand sat mostly 83-85 throughout his outing. Flashed a curveball at 73-75 with tight spin and fastball arm speed for strikes. Tall, athletic balance point, drop and drive type as he descends down the mound. Uphill shoulders help him get some leverage down in the zone. Long, loose and easy arm action from a high-3/4 slot. Strong, firm landing leg, foot lands square to homeplate. Creates some extension over lead leg on release. Falls off to the first base side.
4/2/17
Spina is physically built with broad shoulders at 6-foot-3 200-pounds. sat 84-85 touching 86 and 88 once each. Loose, clean delivery from a high-3/4 slot. Ball comes out easy, simple and repeatable mechanics. High ceiling prospect with more in the tank.
Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11, 2017)
Spina has a strong, physical build at 6-foot-3 200-pounds. Fastball topped at 83 mph, sat mostly 81-83. Showcased a hard, straight changeup at 78-79 mph. Needs to take more velocity off changeup. Flashed a slider that backed up on him. Methodical delivery with steady tempo to start. Mechanics are sound and work fluidly. High-3/4 arm slot with a long, loose arm. Very little effort in delivery and finish. Ball comes out easy. Tall and controlled balance point. Lands square and creates some extension over front landing leg. On some pitches he lands slightly closed causing him to spin off on the finish toward the first base side of the mound. Offensively- starts with a slightly opened stance with hands just above shoulder. Uses a big leg kick to initiate weight transfer and load. Hand load is small. Creates some lift on the finish, weight is mostly on back leg. Exit Velocity was 88 mph. Ran a 6.95 60 yard dash. Interesting prospect to watch
