One of the top 2018 uncommitted prospects, and a high riser in the rankings. Semon has a lean, lanky-athletic body type at 6-foot-3 185-pounds with room to fill out frame. Fastball showed some life at 87-88 touching 89 from a high-3/4 slot. Short, whippy and loose arm action, Semon showed the ability to command both sides of the plate against one of the most potent offenses in the state. Fastball has armside run that he uses to create poor contact especially on right handed hitters. Curveball had smallish 10/4 depth at 70-74 mph. Changeup was a plus pitch for him on this day, creating multiple swings and misses at 77-78 with fastball arm speed. Went 5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 K, 1 BB with multiple soft contact outs.
Underclass Games (September 18th, 2016)
Semon has a lean, athletic build at 6-foot-3 185-pounds. One of the top prospects to keep an eye on from the event. Fastball 84-86, curveball 69-72 mph with sweeping-like 11/5 action. When his fastball command is best, gets some natural armside run. Has a tendency to speed up delivery too much, causing mechanics to get off kilter. Gloveside dips causing his arm to lag behind and miss armside high, or arm over compensates for gloveside and he pulls pitch toward his gloveside. Easy mechanical corrections that could lead Semon to continue to develop into one of the top pitchers in the 2018 class. Short, quick arm action with excellent shoulder tilt going down the mound. Just needs to clean up gloveside. Explosiveness and athleticism is there, still more in the tank - still physically maturing. High follow prospect.
10/18/15 -- Semon was one of the two best pitchers on New Jersey's staff in terms of performance. The right-hander managed to slow down an older New York squad that had managed 6 runs in the first 4 innings against high quality pitchers. He has smooth, easy rhythm and pitches with presence and confidence. His fastball dives to the arm side and was 77-80 miles-per-hour, touching 81. His breaking ball is sharp 11-to-5 at 67-70 MPH an his changeup is very similar to his fastball in hand speed and action at 74-75 MPH. The low effort and three-pitch mix will have him as one of the most sought after 2018s this spring/summer.
