Comments
6-foot, 180-pound RHP with projectable pitcher’s frame. Pitching- hides ball well with whip-like action that makes it difficult for batter to track pitch, attacks strike zone with fastball having late movement at 82-83 MPH, creates weak contact, maintains release point with curveball at 62-64 MPH and changeup at 66-67 MPH, shows confidence with secondary pitches, change-up at 69-71 MPH.
Academic Games (June 3, 2017)
6-foot, 180-pound right-hander with a primer pitcher's build that projects well. Pitching- Effectively creates deception with unorthodox arm action and a fastball at 79-84 MPH, late action creates weak contact, maintains motion with curveball at 65-68 MPH and changeup at 66-67 MPH. Good feel for his secondary and attacks the zone.
Winter Open (February 26, 2017)
McFall checks in at 6-foot-0 and 181 pounds, up 16 pounds from the early fall. Pitching- Works from glove side of the rubber with a high set; short drop step into a leg drive slightly above the waist. Long arm swing with his lower half staying closed but front side opening up. Low 3/4 slot with ability to stay down in the zone and work both sides of the plate. FB velocity up a click to 85-86 MPH. Curveball and change up both hover in the upper 60's range with the CB featuring 12-to-6 action with late bite. Change up demonstrated arm side fade and sink; both secondary offerings would benefit from closing the differential gap.
New York All-Star Games (September 17, 2016)
McFall stands a lean 6-foot-0, 165-pounds with a frame to build on. Pitching- McFall uses a simple side-step, high leg-lift with his hands high. Fastball over matched the hitters during the 2016 All-Star Games, sitting 84-85 mph with late jump from a long, back towards 2B arm-action, releases from a high-3/4 slot. Curveball shows above average spin, 11/5 shape sitting 67 mph. Talented player from Long Island who is currently ranked No. 18 in the 2018 NY Class.
Long Island Preview (February 18, 2016)
Right-handed pitcher standing at 6-foot-0 160 pounds, with plenty of room to fill out and gain strength. Pitching- Uses a drop and drive technique of pitching, getting plenty of power from his leg drive. Created good hand separation throwing from a mid to high 3/4 arm slot. Was able to repeat his delivery on all pitches. Fastball sat at 80-81 MPH, in addition had an impressive straight change with good differential from the fastball at 64-65 MPH. Also threw a knuckle-curve which was a bit inconsistent but showed promise with several having good depth and 12-6 rotation ranging between 59-61 MPH. Can definitely add some MPH’s with an adjustment of staying stronger on the front side which will create better extension on the release of the pitches.
