WNY Travel Workout (January 16, 2017)
Norsen has a large and strong frame at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. Recorded a time of 4.42 seconds from home to first base, a big improvement over his previous best in July 2016. Offensively- Upright stance that is slightly open. Hands are aligned close to back ear. Small stride that gets his stance to even. Weight shifts forward during swing. Hands are short to ball with strong extension through contact. Swing is slightly uphill, creating natural loft. Recorded a personal best exit velocity of 87 MPH off the tee. Pitching- Begins with feet narrow on first base side of rubber. Legs are straight and hands start in front of chin. Small side step to left as right foot toe taps onto rubber. Knee lift comes just above waist at balance point. Long stride that lands in line with home plate. Long arm circle on backside that gets slightly behind body to 1B side. Traditional ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat between 83-85 MPH, up slightly from previous bests. Also spun a curveball at 71-72 MPH and changeup at 74-75 MPH.
Norsen stands with great size at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds with a physical appearance. At the plate he uses a wide approach with balance, slight stride forward on the pitch, long back load. Path to the ball is slightly long, barrel gets fairly level through the contact zone, uses his upper body to produce most of his power at the plate. 86 mph exit velocity and expect him to only keep improving. Defensively he shows a larger target from the corner, stays behind the ball and throws through his body with a strong corner arm. Pitching, he looked slightly tired after a long spring and summer season, velocity was down sitting mostly 78-80, earlier this summer was sitting 82-83. Still very young and raw with front-line projection.
