Physical: 5’9 170lb MIF ran a 7.29 laser timed 60 yard dash. Thin frame has room to add strength and size with time.
Offensively: He starts in an average width stance with his front foot slightly opened up. He uses a short leg lift as his hands sway back into the launch position. His barrel works in behind the ball and up through the hitting zone. His swing is repeatable and has simple movements that work well together.
Defensively: He plays with a low center of gravity and uses short choppy steps to control his body weight as he approaches the ball. He displays solid actions with an arm action that works from a low ¾ arm slot on most throws.
Offensively- the left handed hitter stands in the box in a tall stance. Simple short load actions. Displayed a flat bat path through the hitting zone. Displayed hard contact to the pull side. Defensively- the infielder displayed active footwork during the infield session. Gets himself in a good fielding position before fielding the baseball. Smooth funnel actions. Throws the ball from a mid ¾ arm slot. Impressive performance at the campus series event. Apicella has good actions and is a player to watch as he continues to develop.
