A physical athletic build at 6-foot-0 tall, 182 pounds. Ran a 7.19 in the 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box with feet shoulder-width apart. Uses a slight leg kick for timing and balance before attacking the hitting zone. Has a quick direct path to the baseball. Ball jumps off the bat. Low effort. Showed some pull side pop. Gets good use of the lower half. Stays balanced throughout his swing. Top exit velocity was 85 MPH. Defensively- As an infielder, stays under control when charging the baseball. Gets himself in a good position. Shows above average funnel actions. Has a smooth exchange to a high ¾ arm slot on throws across the diamond. Moves well side to side. Top throwing velocity was 8; MPH. Pitching- Displayed a repeatable delivery. Stays balanced throughout his delivery. Works mainly from the left side of the rubber and mainly from the stretch. Works with a mid-leg lift and early hand separation. Drives downhill from a balanced backside. Low effort. FB ranged from 77-79 MPH and peaked at 79 MPH. Showed a tight CB at 66-69 MPH. Showed feel for a CH at 70-71 MPH. The 2020 graduate is a must follow.
2.18.19
A physical 6-foot-0, 182 pounds. Ran a 7.27 60 yard dash. Offensively- Stands in the box with a tall stance with loose hands near the head. Displayed a short compact swing with easy pop during the hitting portion. Flat barrel through the hitting zone and one hand finish. Uses a strong lower ½. Exit velocity was 89 MPH. Defensively- Aggressive to the baseball. Displayed soft hands and smooth exchange to a ¾ arm slot. Strong accurate throws across the infield. The 2020 graduate has a quick release and best throw on the day peaked at 85 MPH. As an OF, uses active footwork to get himself in a good position. Gets behind the ball and has a quick release. Displayed strong throws during the defensive portion. The top throw from the OF was 85 MPH. The 2020 graduate is a talented athlete that can play in the middle of the infield or all three outfield positions. Must follow going forward.
ENY ASG (September 15, 2018)
Projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 182-pounds. Ran a 7.03 60 Yard Dash. Offensively - Wide, balanced set up with knee bend. Controlled forward stride to get into his landing. Hits from an athletic base. Hands stay tight to the body during swing. Consistently stayed behind the ball during BP and projects to add more power in the future. Exit Velocity was 83 MPH. Defensively - Balanced defensive actions with smooth tempo/rhythm. Fluid transition from fielding into throwing. Clean footwork. Funnels ball quickly into throws. High 3/4 arm slot with compact arm action. Arm strength was 79 MPH.
Well built frame, room to fill out has he contiunes to mature. 81 mph arm from the OF with a quick release, carry to the bag, full arm swing. Loaded up stance in the box, quiet hands, level swing path through contact, keeps his hands back letting the ball travel, generates an 87 mph exit velocity off a tee.
Preseason All-State West (Feb. 19, 2018)
Gaeta stands from a 6-foot-0 stance, 180-pounds (up 8 pounds since Sept). In the box the Sophomore shows a slightly crouched setup, bat upright near his hands prior to the pitch. On the pitch there is a back load, front stride for timing, hands stay compact on a short path, slight uphill barrel path, would like to see him with a more "full" extension on his finish, currently he hits the brakes a touch early. Exit velocity was up 8 mph since Sept. at 79 mph. Defensively, mostly aggressive to the ball staying behind his target, uses a strong front-side generating extra momentum prior to release. Arm-strength is above average at 83 mph, arm-action is short, wouldn't mind seeing him lengthen it out some which will benefit his arm speed and carry on the ball. Overall, a very good looking prospect from CNY in the outfield.
WNY All-Star Game (September 24, 2017)
Gaeta stands in at 6-foot-0, 172-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Offensively- Righty sets up in an open stance with his feet just outside shoulder width. Shows a slight knee bend with his torso leaning towards home plate holding the bat in front of the back shoulder using little pre-pitch bat movement. On pitch his trigger is a knee raise in to stride forward squaring up with the pitcher while his hands move back slightly getting into his hitting position. Utilizes good lower body rotation getting whole body frame involved in the swing. Could use more of a trigger with the hands to generate more bat speed throughout the hitting zone. Hands are smooth to the hitting zone with a level bat patch throughout into a high two handed finish. Demonstrated line drive ability up the middle and to the opposite field side. Recorded an exit velocity of 71 MPH. Defensively- Shows good footwork and approach getting to and underneath the ball in the outfield. Could be quicker with the transition of the throw gaining more ground forward. Will get better with more reps and strength development. Recorded a positional arm velocity of 78 MPH.
