Alexander, a 2020 switch hitting middle infielder, ran a 8.12 60. Offensively- From the left side, starts with an upright slightly open stance with the hands above the back shoulder and barrel of the bat nearly parallel to the ground. Initiates the swing with a high front leg kick while the hands create a buggy whip action straight off the back shoulder. Is able to keep the hands back behind the rotation of the hips, but is a bit stiff with the front foot landing. Showed ability to drive the ball where it was pitched, showing a compact swing, using all fields during batting practice. With a little more drive from the back hip will create more positive torque and increase the exit velocity of 71 MPH shown on the day. From the right side, starts with an upright narrow stance with the hands in front of the back shoulder and barrel of the bat almost upright. Uses a front leg kick to begin the launch phase of the swing while the hands, using a buggy whip action, are loaded straight back off the back shoulder creating a bit of a lead arm bar action. On path to the ball, hands get parallel prematurely causing a bit of drag through the hitting zone. Showed ability to drive the lower third middle in pitch from the center to the pull side gap. Defensively- Utilizes a pre pitch movement with the hands out in front of the body while the feet create forward momentum. Gets into fielding position with the glove a bit deep, and locks the hips by getting back on the heels. Would create better momentum if the weight could get more on the balls of the feet. Funnels the ball to the center of the body while using fairly good footwork. Throws showed good accuracy but carry and velocity could improve with a shorter arm action which would create the lower and upper half to be more in sync. Recorded an arm velocity of 66 MPH on the day.
