Andrew Jones: SS/RHP, (2022) Brush, OH. Ohio State Commit, 6-foot-2, 185-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Jones displayed an exit velocity of 95 mph, 3rd Best EV of the day. Started in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth controlled load, then used a toe tap. Bat speed was explosive, showed an upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Athletic in the infield, displayed a velocity of 83 mph; showed smooth feet, soft hands, and a clean exchange. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Had a quick arm action and a high ¾ slot. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.5. Athletic on the mound, showed quick arm speed, also used a loose arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Up-tempo type pitcher and shows easy effort. Showed an athletic balance point. Cutter (76-79 mph), curveball (72-74 mph), changeup (79-80 mph).Sat with his fastball at 85-89 mph.
One of the most impressive overall athletes playing at The Rock this weekend. He's a wiry 6-foot-2 and is highly projectable. In NEO's first game of the tournament, Jones led the game off with a homer to left, lagging his barrel through the zone. He also started the game on the bump for his squad where he stole even more attention. Jones works with a rhythmic, quick-tempo, high knee up into slight hip turn. Can open up a little early which leads to occasional command issues, but arm action is fast, loose, from a high ¾ slot. Fastball on Thursday sat at a live 80-82 mph, hard and downhill. He also came in to pitch in relief on Sunday and was sitting more regularly 83-84 mph, with a ball that really jumped from his hand. In both outings, Jones mixed in an aggressive slider, 73-74 mph, working off a downer plane, with above-average break and bite; real swing-and-miss potential. Was also savvy enough to mix in a curveball when necessary, 12/6 shape, depth, 67-69 mph. And when he’s not pitching he slides in at shortstop, where his premium athleticism fits right in.
