Cincinnati recruit. Smith hit the ground running for Team Indian going 3-for-5 with two triples and a double in his first two games with the squad. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound backstop has a frame reminiscent of many Ohio prep products including lean, defined strength throughout an athletic frame. He is nimble behind the plate with a wide setup and loose hips with quality receiving skills. His present adequate arm strength played up in-game thanks to smooth footwork/transfer that allowed him to nab a runner at 1.95. His strong forearms provided for gap-to-gap power which he was able to get to in-game as the barrel whips through the zone with more aggressive use of the lower-half.
Stats: 4-for-11 (2x3B, 2B), 4BB, 3RBI, 2R
Left-handed hitting catcher that took the top BP of the entire day 2. Incorporates athletic movements that create balanced and consistent timing. Swing is electric and generates easy juice. Ball looks different off his bat. Backspun everything in BP and scorched a few balls in game. Behind the dish he showed and above average skill set across the board. Good athlete back there.
