Brandon Schreffler: LHP/1B, (2021) Chardon, OH. 6-foot-4, 225-pound physical frame. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter displayed an exit velocity of 100 mph, Top 2 velo of the day. Started in a balanced stance with a smooth load, then used a short stride. Bat speed was average, and showed a level swing plane. Athletic in the infield, his best throw was registered at 83 mph; had soft hands, a clean exchange, and athletic footwork. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Used a quick arm action on his throws. In the 30-yard dash, recorded a time of 4.12 30 yard dash. On the mound, showed a ¾ arm angle and a quick arm action with quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows some effort. Showed a strong balance point. Sat with his fastball at 82-84 mph; shows running action and arm side command. Shows gradual action on his 1/7 curveball (63-66). Showed arm side command and fading action on his changeup (75-77). Has plus action on his 1/7 slider (71-74).
2/8/20 Pitching
Delivery Notes: Schreffler threw from a ¾ arm slot and had a bit of a crossfire action to his delivery. Overall, has a clean arm action. Shows a projectable frame with long levers.
Fastball: Fastball was 80-82 mph and mostly true through the zone.
Fastball Spin Rate:1220-1570
Curveball: Breaking ball profiled as a slider and was thrown at 65-68 mph. Maintained good arm speed on the pitch to create quality deception.
Curveball Spin Rate: 1490-1500
Changeup: Changeup was 78-79 mph and really seemed to profile more as a 2-seam fastball/sinker than a changeup due to the lack of speed differential from his fastball.
Pitchability: Good command of this arsenal. Hard to really call him a three pitch guy when the changeup really acts as a fastball with more movement than his 4-seamer, but the slider showed some room to grow.
2/8/20 Position Player
Hit: Right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced stance. Easy, fluid load with a balanced launch. Aggressive swinger that doesn't get cheated up there. Advanced strength. Squared up a few balls that looked different in BP. When he gets it, it goes.
Power: Raw Power.
Offensive Projection: Middle.
Top Rapsodo BP Exit Velocity: 93
Top Rapsodo BP Distance:317
Field: Frame/skill set plays at first base. Solid performance over there. Above average skill set.
Throw: Well above average strength for spot.
Defensive Projection: 1B.
2/2/2019 Pitching
Body Type: 6-foot-3 174-pound prospect with a projectable frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: The LHP threw from a ¾ arm slot and had a bit of a crossfire action to his delivery.
Fastball: 75-78 mph fastball showed some late life and good arm side run.
Breaking Ball: 66-68 mph breaking ball had a slurvey shape and average spin.
Changeup: 69-70 mph changeup was mostly true with some arm side run.
Pitchability: Showed good feel for his three pitch. Fastball and changeup command were ahead of his breaking ball.
Role: Would project as a starter type at the high school level. How he develops velocity and refines his breaking ball will dictate if he can start at the next level.
2/2/2019
Body Type: 6-foot-3 174-pound prospect with a projectable frame.
Swing Mechanics: Starts in an open stance and uses a leg kick for his load. Slight arm bar leads to him casting his barrel around the zone with a flat bat path. Showed strong hands.
Hit: Good barrel control.
Power: 85 mph exit velocity.
Offensive Projection: Presently projects as guy with gap to gap potential. Good sized frame could lead to more power potential down the road depending on how he develops.
Run: 7.94 60 yard dash.
Field: At 1B he didn’t take particularly good angles to the ball but showed decent fell and footwork around the bag.
Defensive Projection: Shows the ability to be adequate at 1B at the next level.
