At 6-1, 190-pounds, Newton is a good athlete with a solid combination of strength and bat speed through the zone. The right-handed hitter shows an intent driven swing that generates impressive barrel jump. Tee exit velocity of 90 mph. Worked pull side in BP, flashing some loft power. Swing could be cleaned up a bit but the natural tools are obvious. In the outfield he plays under control with above average ball skills through. Arm is an above average tool, showing present carry and accuracy at 85 mph. Footspeed likely will determine future destination. Newton runs a 6.90 60-yard dash, but was also clocked with a sub-12.00 time on a triple last spring which is very impressive when the 2016 MLB average on triples was 12.01.

6-2, 190-pound athletic outfielder. Strong prospect with obvious bat speed. Level bat path through the zone. In this AB, Newton rips a triple to left-center, racing around the bases at a very impressive sub-12.00 time (Average during the 2016 MLB season was 12.01). Good looking scholarship-type prospect who will be playing for Ohio Elite this summer. Look for Javen to open some eyes at the Top Prospect Games this summer as well.
