Physical: 6-foot-1, 185 pounds; Average, broad shouldered build.
Pitching: Uses a glove side setup while using a side step. Mid chest leg drive with a full coil away from the plate. Has a long stride landing inline with the plate. Long arm swing while arm stays in line with 2B; high/over the top slot. Spins off 1B side with finish. FB: Peak velo of 79 MPH, while sitting 74-78 MPH. CB: 63-65 MPH; CH: 72-73 MPH.
McDonald came on in relief and worked a clean first inning, sitting down all five batters he faced. He was able to establish the fastball and locate with it. He worked with a breaking ball that 12-6 action and he was able to keep down for swings/misses. It was a good showing from the McDonald who was able to get outs and will take the mound again tomorrow for the Canada Selects.
McDonald, a 2022 grad and two-way guy, stood out on both ends. It’s an athletic, 6-foot-1, 155-pound frame; there’s current strength, with a build that will take on a lot more weight. His actions were clean in the outfield. He was up to 84 mph; arm action was short and quick. Still raw on the mound, but the arm has a chance to play, and with better body efficiency, there’s more in there. His bat is behind right now, but there’s bat speed and some pop; it will be a matter of cleaning up his mechanics. There’s a lot of upside with McDonald.
