Mitchell is a young athletic player who used an aggressive style both offensively and defensively in the Underclass Games. Was able to produce hard contact and drive balls into the gap with some bat speed for the 2018 grad. Uses a small stride to load while hands are back and separated. Bat plane has some lift in the finish, shows ability to see ball and was on pitches early during game action. Ran a strong 7.13 in his 60-yard dash at regular effort. Will steal bags. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in the outfield over time with his athleticism and ability to run and throw the ball. Arm played from the infield with some whip to his action. Average hands and feet in the infield, makes routine play. Young athletic player who plays the game hard with some baseball instincts. Strength gains and maturity will be two key factors for Mitchell as the actions are there.
4/4/15
Athletic 2018 grad with some quick twitch actions. Listed at 5-foot-7, 135-pounds with room and time to mature and develop. From the mound, Mitchell threw lots of strikes with all three pitches. His fastball topped out at 73 mph with a clean arm action from a high-¾ arm slot. Mitchell’s clean mechanics and good separation make his delivery very consistent. He showed good feel for his secondary stuff with a straight changeup at 60-61 mph and a 12/6 shaped curveball at 60-61 mph. He has the ability to throw all three pitches for strikes with a quick arm and should see velocity gains over the course of the year. Offensively, Mitchell ran a 4.37 from home to first and was times at 5.28 in the 40-yard dash. At the plate, Ben starts upright with a slightly open stance. Small rock back to load with a minimal leg kick, gets his foot back online and down in time. Hands show some quick twitch and uses a short stroke to contact. Bat path is level and stays through the baseball, exit velocity was 69 mph. Defensively, Ben worked from a low-3/4 arm slot that was clocked at 72 mph across the diamond, can increase velo with arm slot and involvement of lower half. Shows agility in lower half while he took proper routes and moved through the ball. Can go get it either side. Good foundation for the 2018 to continue to build on and improve.
