’24 OF Dante Smith (North Dakota St. commit) was a spark plug for Ontario in the two-hole, going 8-for-25 with a triple and seven stolen bases in as many attempts. The toolsy left-handed hitter was consistently putting up quality at-bats and moving himself around the bases. High IQ player who’s speed translates well into the outfield, along with good reads and instincts. In a tournament where every pitch and at-bat is intensified and more meaningful, his tools and overall game were one of the most impactful throughout the week.
2024 OF Dante Smith seemed to have his coming out party this past weekend, showing the ability to drive the ball against high-level arms. Undersized right now with tons of room to add strength and fill out at 5-foot-9, 150-pounds but the ball was jumping off his bat this past weekend with several extra-base hits to the deep parts of the park. Simple, balanced setup from the left-side and the hit-tool and ability to find the barrel have developed well. Athlete on the field with no issues manning centrefield. Impressive showing this week from Smith with the ability to impact a game on both sides of the ball.
