Big frame who works out of 3/4 slot which at times could be considered low 3/4. Fastball sat 84-86 and showed arm side run while being able to use leverage and get on top of baseball. Breaking ball showed some depth when out front and stayed through pitch while changeup has chance to be quality pitch coming out fastball slot. Big body righty with much more in the tank. 2018 prospect to watch closely.
Stamatopoulus passes the “eye test” as the 2018 right-hander is listed at 6-foot-6, 225-pounds with a well proportioned frame. Strength in the lower half is there and we believe the righty can add to his 84 mph fastball. The actions are clean from ¾ arm slot, arm works and is on time for most part, being able to get more involvement out of lower half, along with maturity and physical strength gains will help velocity jump on his fastball. His offspeed will need reps to fine tune as the changeup was a little firm at 77 mph while his breaking ball was 71-73 mph, would back up at times when he would cast or drag with the arm. Did show signs of proper spin, so being able to repeat his release point should help give him an advantage while getting out front and locating down. The size is something to dream on, and the 2018 grad will surely have his opportunity to take the next step in 2017 and push to be one of the top arms in his class.
