Johnston, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound catcher for the Ottawa Knights, was an attendee of the Canadian College/University showcase. Behind the plate, he showcased correct actions, and his arm worked short with 72 mph arm strength across. He showed the ability to play in the infield, displaying clean glove actions and 76 mph arm strength. At the plate, it’s a line-drive swing with some power potential, and he posted a 92 mph exit velocity on the day. Johnston has the tools to contribute at the next level and make adjustments to tap into his potential.
Johnson, a two-way player, has made significant strides since we last saw him. Behind the plate, he was 1.97-2.16, his arm has improved, and he is now up to 72 mph across. Clean footwork, accurate throws. At the plate, it’s a controlled, quiet setup with good weight distribution. His hands work short towards the baseball, slight loft to his swing, smooth through the zone with a one-hand finish when he gets extended. He translated well to playing third-base, glove actions were clean, letting off throws with a short arm-action and carry up to 76 mph. He worked 73-75 mph on the mound, mixed in breaking stuff that displayed ideal shape. He will be an interesting follow in the 2020 class.

A 2020 catcher, Johnson is a member of the Ottawa Knights. The 6-0. 210-pound frame plays well at the plate where Johnson has a compact and controlled swing though the zone. Behind the plate, Johnson ranges around 2.20-2.32 on pop-times, with 69 mph arm strength. He has two-way ability and is a good player currently, with room to get more athletic and improve.
