2022 Niagara County CC commit Mitchall Gordon was sharp on the mound throughout the week with his best start coming on Thursday against Oshawa. He struck out 15 over seven innings allowing just two runs on two hits. Although the velo was down this week for Gordon, there’s size on the mound and he works downhill. He worked in the 80-82 mph range and he was spinning the curveball well throughout the week. An arm we expect to have uptick in velocity before he steps on campus at NCCC.
Gordon, 6-foot-1, 200-pounds, is a big physical presence in the box and on the mound. At the dish, he impressed with controlled violence hitting balls hard all over the field. Pull side juice is there, also hit multiple balls hard the other way. Looks to do damage, finished with a 97 mph exit velo. On the mound, Gordon threw his 3-pitch mix for strikes and had a solid 2 innings of work. His FB was 82-84 mph, CH 73-74 mph, and CB 69-70 mph. The Niagara County CC commit will look to continue to show well in Panama City Beach next week.
A 2022 Grad, Gordon is physical at 6-foot-1, 210-pounds, an athletic build that is projectable on the mound with plenty of time to grow and add strength. He impressed on the mound in September, featuring a heavy fastball that was up to 84 mph, a curveball with plenty of depth, and a change-up that changed pace well. The arm action is long as he stabs down out of his leg kick, but sits into his back leg well to generate power towards the plate. With the bat, Gordon features strength at an 87 mph Exit Velo and a swing path that could see gap-to-gap power. For his load, he takes his hands down and back to separate from a slight leg kick, then drives through the ball well with his back hip. At 1B, he approaches the ball well and fields it out in front, then gets in a good position to make an accurate throw. Work on the defensive side could see him stick at the plate longer, however, as he becomes more explosive, the FB Velo should rise and opponents will continue to struggle.
