Now 6-foot5, 238-pounds, Holmes sat 89 mph for the majority of his bullpen and flashed a couple 90's. Moves well on the mound for his size and creates good angles with shoulders to work downhill. Curveball worked in the 76-78 mph range, showed proper rotation although a few backed up on him, changeup was in the high 70's, feel for pitch and not afraid to work off of in game setting. Good first look for the top uncommitted 2017 arm in Ontario.
Big, stocky 6-foot-4, 230-pound uncommitted right-hander, Holmes impresses with his arsenal of pitches and fastball that worked down in zone at 86-87 mph for strikes. Worked both sides of the plate, inducing weak contact and swings and misses off his fastball. Curveball has 11/5 shape with feel for strike zone, chance to throw harder and be potential put away pitch. Changeup had fading action to arm side at 75 mph, was up at times and down in the zone would work well off his fastball. Like the delivery and how he moves on the mound, one of the better arms in the 17' class with room to add velocity as he gains more strength to his prototypical pitchers frame.
