Tanner Almond is an impressive looking left handed hitting outfielder that fills out a uniform well. He stands 6-foot-2, 180-pounds with present strength. He moved well defensively with a good transfer and throwing motion. It was very smooth and quick. There was arm strength with good carry on his throws. At the plate, he showed a compact swing with a slight uppercut. There was a bit of hand drop that creates some length in swing but he was still able to get on plane well. A lot to like about Almond and he is developing into a player that can make an impact all over the diamond.
Left on left 2021 outfielder from the Nationals, Almond was a standout and an easy choice to be an All-Tourney member. He impressed from the start of the week, putting together a couple of solid rounds of batting practice, displaying a controlled, upward swing. The swing translated in-game where he got on plane early and was able to get out front and drive the baseball. It’s an athletic and projectable build, and with added strength, his 82 mph arm strength along with power will take big jumps. As Almond heads into only his sophomore season, he has lots of time to continue developing an already impressive toolset.
9.9.17 - Almond is a left on left 2020 grad with maturity and strength gains remaining. At the plate, good load and gets started from balanced stance, load and stride work together, line drive approach and stayed big part of field while top exit velocity was 81 mph. Arm works defensively from outfield, clean actions and top velocity of 74 mph. On the mound, Almond works with rhythm and repeats delivery. Arm comes out of 3/4 slot and was in and around the zone with all three pitches. Lots of time to add to velocity and stuff, Almond has right foundation to continue to develop as a two-way player.
