Prep Baseball All-American Game: Long and projectable at 6-foot-5, 200-pounds, French is a polarizing catching prospect in the 2024 class. Loose hands with a substantial leg kick that’s paired with a bat path that creates easy loft and present above-average raw power. Impressive barrel control and plate coverage overall for the long levers. Behind the plate, the Virginia Tech commit boasts huge tools with plus arm strength with accuracy and explosion out of the crouch averaging sub-1.9 pop-times on average. Flexibility and quick-improving framing give the defensive profile the potential to be among the best in the country.
Physical: Long 6-foot-4, 205lb frame with next-level strength. 6.83 runner in 60YD.
Offensively: LHH. Balanced, slightly open stance, as the hands operate higher to begin. Utilized a short leg lift stride to initiate the swing through an efficient, uphill path towards a two-handed finish. Stayed on plane with backspin off the bat; posted a T97MPH exit at 370FT. Big power follow in the class with ability to hit for some AVG.
Defensively: The catcher showed an adequate receiving skillset from a traditional stance. Pop times ranged from 1.94-2.03 with a strong 81MPH throwing arm. Could slide to a corner spot due to size. Good enough athlete.
6-foot, 140-pound left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to initiate his swing. Showcased balance throughout with a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 79 mph and ran an 8.00 60-yard dash. Displayed sound receiving skills with pop times of 2.25-2.32 on throws of 68 mph out of the crouch. Physically advanced prospect with well-rounded skill set is a player to watch in this class.
