Physical: Quick twitch athlete in a compact 5-foot-9, 160-pound frame. Impressive feel in all phases of the game; 7.30 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Upright, slightly-open stance with rhythm in the hands at shoulder height pre-load. Utilized a leg lift stride early in ball flight allowing for increased timing at the front of the plate through a flat, slightly uphill attack angle. Recorded a 64% line drive rate per Trackman Baseball, which points to the obvious bat to ball skills present at the dish. A 73 mph bat speed also gives confidence that he can continue increasing an already standout 89 mph bat-exit velocity during batting practice. With the ability to pepper either gap with doubles power at the moment, Fornataro looks to slot into a top of the order role as the athleticism gets accompanied by more strength.
Defensively: The primary outfielder featured loose actions, arriving on time with up tempo footwork on the approach, body got downhill early creating good pace towards the plate. The arm raced through a quick, high ¾ slot with smooth mechanics allowing for an accurate 85 mph arm strength from his position … The shortstop flashed advanced feel in either direction with good lateral quickness. Had solid reads off the bat beating the ball to the spot all over the field, soft glove hand played with confidence off of his left foot aiding a live, 87 mph throwing arm.
Pitching: RHP - The righty started from the left side of the rubber with solid tempo in the delivery, traditional leg lift with drive out towards the plate onto a stiff front leg early at foot strike. The arm was on time through a low release slot (4.45 feet average) getting advanced ride 20.3 inches of IVB on the FB (85-87 mph). Mixed a developing 73-74 mph SL that backed up at times on this date showing short horizontal bite. Countered with a developing 71-73 mph CH with a lower release height than the FB.
