10/13/18 - Home-1st: 5.09, Pop Time: 2.19-2.25, Position Velocity: C-70, Exit Velocity: 89
6-foot-1, 185-pound, RHH showed off his bat speed and ability to impact the baseball w/ better peripheral numbers than stats indicate, as the cold affected his ability to get loose and match what he did at Tennessee this summer. Prototypical catcher frame, tall, athletic, high-waisted frame w/ some well-proportioned lean strength, super projectable. Has just scratched the surface of his frame potential. Offensively, hits w/ an open, slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into shift of weight, short crouch, big leg kick and proper hand load. Generates above average bat speed through the zone. Understands how to use his body to maximize bat speed. All fields approach w/ lot of line drives when right. Projectable all fields power as frame matures. Defensively, needs to present a target for his pitchers with his glove consistently while presenting a lower target, ideally just below the knees of the hitter. Has an idea of how to stick the baseball, frame pitches, as he learns pitchers, should be able to do it consistently at the next level and beat the baseball to it’s spots. As a thrower, arm was just not getting loose today, so didn’t show arm strength as well as we have seen in the past. Mechanically, shows good feet w/ quick release.
6/27/18 - 60 Time: 7.29, Pop Time: 1.90-2.00, Position Velocity: C-74, Exit Velocity: 80
6-foot-1, 180-pound, RHH shows better bat speed than exit velocity indicates. Medium, athletic frame w/ high-waisted lean strength, super projectable. Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into knee to knee leg kick to square and proper load. Generates above average bat speed through the zone. Learning to take the same swing every time, once he consistently repeats, will make a jump in game, occasionally gets out on front leg, occasionally gets too much separation with his hands and creates length. Just needs reps to repeat his swing. Understands how to use his entire body to generate bat speed. Projectable all fields power. As a receiver, jumper who presents a solid target at times, no target at others. Can set his glove earlier to allow him to frame the baseball better. Shows ability to box the baseball. As a thrower, features arm strength w/ carry to target.
