There were a lot of people on hand to watch the Jones vs. Lucas Davenport matchup on Tuesday night, and Jones showed off the electric bat speed that we have grown accustomed to seeing. The Arkansas signee was 1 for 3 with a hard single on the night, but he ran deep counts and got good swings off every AB. He moved well at short and showed lateral quickness to both the 6 hole and up the middle.
On Saturday we headed to Braswell to get our first look of the year of Jones. The Arkansas Signee has been one of the better hitters in the country for a few years now, and he showed us why on Saturday. The first thing you notice about Jones when he is in the box is the elite bat speed. Every time he swings you expect the ball to be hit with authority. He had 2 hits on the day, with a single where he kept his hands inside the ball and drove a line drive the other way. The 2nd hit was a 2B where he was able to get the barrel out and drove it to the LC gap. In the field, Jones made a nice play in the 6 hole and was able to show off the arm. It had good carry across the diamond and was accurate as well. Jones is the next in line of high end DFW shortstops, and there will be a lot of eyes on him this spring.
Already physical for a rising sophomore at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds but looks like there is still room to add strength. Launched two homers during BP and makes loud contact. Ran a 7.08 60-yard dash, threw 78 from behind the dish, 84 across the infield, and his pop times were 2.08-2.19. Looks like a future middle of the order hitter.
