Cape Cod: Leadoff hitter John Spikerman (Oklahoma) is athletic, strong and tooled up with 80-grade run speed and plus arm strength. He spent time at both shortstop and center field with the big field his best defensive home over the long term. With above average bat speed from both sides of the plate, his swing path is steep. The barrel gets in and out of the zone quickly, resulting in much swing/miss for the switch-hitter. He was easy to pitch to with a “book” approach of fastball in and off speed away. He finished the summer with a .238 average and 27 strikeouts in 101 at-bats, but did produce five doubles, a pair of home runs and 12 stolen bases.
Is a switch hitting shortstop that ran a 6.5 60-yard dash to start the day. We had seen him hit left-handed a couple of days before at the Twelve Scout Day. On Tuesday, we had a chance to see him hit from both sides and the right-handed swing was outstanding. He makes a lot of one handed glove plays on the infield but the exchange is quick and clean, and there is plenty of arm strength as he threw 90 across the diamond.
