Prep Baseball All-American Game: An imposing presence at 6-foot-6, 230-pounds, Stribling works out of an high, near over-the-top arm slot that creates a tough angle and deception for uncomfortable at-bats. Fastball gets some carry through the zone at 90-93 with present feel to spin (Avg. 2450). Mid-70s slurve can create depth while showing some ability to manipulate shape. Firm changeup at 85-87 will flash at times. Refined command of the entire pitch mix will be key in the Texas commit reaching his full potential, but the stuff is there.
There was a lot of anticipation to see Stribling throw, and he definitely delivered. He played a basketball playoff game earlier in the week, and was on the mound a couple days later. The first thing that you notice is how big he is. He is every bit of 6’5 and may get bigger. In the 1st inning, he didn’t throw a fastball under 90. He was 90-91 on every FB and sprinkled in a 75 mph CB. The CB is inconsistent, but he threw some with nice depth and got some bad swings on it. Stribling is an exciting prospect because he isn't anywhere near his ceiling, but the present stuff is pretty exciting in his own right. He will keep ascending as the year goes.
The athletic, uncommitted 6-foot-5 left handed pitcher shows one of the higher ceilings in the entire class. Recently seen up to 87 mph from a high ¾ slot creating a tough angle in to right handed hitters as well as creating some tilt when down in the zone. He paired the fastball with a curveball that showed the right shape and spin at 72 mph. One would tend to think the velocity on that pitch will continue to climb whether it stays a true curveball or blends more into a power curve or true slider down the road. The Highland Park native doubles as a basketball player showing his natural athleticism and gives you more of a reason to think the jumps will continue to happen on the mound.
