Live armed right hander Zane Morehouse relieved Nixon and touched 95 with his tailing fastball. He also flashed a short, tight 83-87 mph slider, but it was thrown from an inconsistent release point and mostly missed the strike zone.
Long and lanky with good present stuff and a quick arm, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound Morehouse projects to get even better with added strength and experience. Coming off a dominant spring at Dyersburg with a 126 strikeouts in 80 IP and a 2.59 ERA, the right-hander works 91-95 with his heat and touches 97. His 93-94 mph sinker is a plus pitch and his slider generates repeated swing and miss. Fastball command will determine what role he will have in Austin this spring.
