The son of BYU head coach Trent Pratt and the 1st cousin of Southern Miss INF Ozzie and 2nd Rd’er and Brewers MiLB POTY Cooper Pratt. The younger Pratt, is an anomaly in that he is a LHH MIF, that has been schooled in the fundamentals and looks the part with sound movement patterns for a rising HS freshman. The LH’ed swing is inline for where he should be at this point, as it has an on-plane pattern in the 70% range and shows fluidity through the zone from an upright even prop stance. Currently shows size and immature strength due to his age, as the swing plane is fluid, yet swings the barrel somewhat and needs to swing the handle a bit more. This will in turn speed the barrel up and create a tighter and more compact turn into the zone and allow for added on-plane and a more repeatable stroke. Look for massive jumps in this area as his hands/forearms and core will only get stronger with maturity and gym focused work in that area. The glove shows softness with a loose wrist to allow for fluid catch and transfer to the throwing hand. The feet have some bounce to an educated lower ½ rhythm to his operation. The exchange is quick and simple to a TQ to LTQ quick wrist flip with ext to his arm stroke. The release allows for a slight arc to his throws with carry thru the bag. Not a runner, as he has some heaviness to his feet, though with natural lower ½ added strength and focus to stay on the balls of his feet, that he plays with up the middle, his times should drastically improve over the course of the next 4 years. The actions are of a player who has been around the game and watching and being around good to elite players. Looking forward to having Brooks with me throughout his HS career and this coming summer at the West Coast Super Sophomore Games at the U of Oregon (Labor Day Weekend).
