One of the more interesting stories and at the same time, leaves you scratching your head. For a player that has received “one” AB at the varsity level, heading into his senior year, after transferring from Skyridge to Lehi HS, Salazar is tooled out, but the tools are way ahead of the skills and instincts for the game. Blessed with a quick twitch lower ½ and is uber twitchy and athletic, and approaches the game, much like a Lorenzo Cain, at the same time and stage of development. Plays as if he is just playing for the 1st time, but the tool measurements are pretty good to say the least. With hand and bat speed marks of 25.2 and 76.9, to go with an EV max of 99.3, while also running a 6.72/60 yrd dash. During the Swift Performance testing, Salazar also posted a vertical jump max and leader in the clubhouse at 38.6 inches. It will be interesting to see if the skills can be taken to the field at the HS level next spring, as there are definite tools in the toolbox, but how his instincts play and improve with more experience to play at the next level, remain to be seen. Stay posted…
