James Hallows, Woods Cross (UT), 2026
Positional Profile: C/1B A fun find at the Preseason ID in January with the EV power and cannon for an arm. Repeated that performance t the Preseason All-State and once gain left the yard with solid to hard contact and once again showing the bazooka of an arm.
Body: 5-11, 206-pounds. Med frame with catcher type build thickness throughout. Country farm boy strong
Hit: RHH. Upright even prop stance with a high bat over the back shoulder Slightly uphill and shows a fair to avg on-linwe plane, that needs to use his legs to move up and down vertically with the body to get on plane 76.1 mph bat speed with 12 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 101 max exit velocity, averaged 94.0 mph. 334' max distance. Solid to plus raw power and the ball jumps on a line and features backspin to the alleys
Arm: RH. C-81 mph. Quick exchange with God given arm strength. Accurate and throws carry through the bag with consistent 1.85-1.95 throws.
Defense: 1.85-2.00 pop times. Need to see more of him in game situations, and will ge that in couple of weeks in preseason tournaments
ATH: 7.66 runner in the 60. Runs like a catcher and will be a station to station type
Vizual Edge: 73.61 Edge Score
The biggest bat of the Preseason ID and in his Prep Baseball UT debut. Now registered for the Preseason All-State (Invite only - Feb 22nd at Crimson Cliffs HS) Hallows shined on both sides of the equation, behind the plate in the batters box! There are some fixes that need to be addressed in his uncoiling and movement patterns to hit a baseball, but the strength and natural hand and bat speed mechanisms are in place to make some refinements to his offensive game. A strong core and abv avg hand and bat speed with farm boy strength are there to do damage as he quits down his mechanical approach. The ball jumps off the bat at 101.4 mph with 24 hand speed and 77 bat speed. A hard hit % of 83 suggests natural brute strength, whereas a 17% sweet spot can be improved with the quieting down of the body and learning to be as still as possible and allow his core and hands to just take over. Very intriguing! The catch and throw are in the same breath as the bat, in that the exchange to throw can be somewhat avg, yet he makes up with natural arm strength and online throws to secure 1.87-1.90 pop times. It will be fun to watch if he fell under the tutelage of a Payton Henry or John Buck and refined his movements, we could be looking at elite patterns to unleash throws that would really not only control the run game, but stop it completely. Runs like a catcher and that’s fine, because the tools are in place to catch/throw and hit for power. I would suggest watching and studying Ridge Erickson catch as a freshman for BYU this year and capture in his mind the advanced and elite potential that he possesses, to take his own defensive game to another level.
