Gagen is a Tennessee commit, athletic frame with some projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action with some effort to it. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed before landing open with some fall off and recoil. Fastball was 83-86, touching 87, with a bit of late armside run and some depth to it. Change-up was 74-75 with good armspeed and some late fade. Slider was 71-72 with good armspeed and late sweep to 2/8 action to it, got bigger when he slowed it down, showed the ability to manipulate its shape. Was around the zone with his pitches, showed control but not command. Got squeezed some. Generated weak contact.
VA/DC State Games
Gagen is 6-2 with a lanky athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short loose arm action and easier effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 82-84, with some boring action to armside and a bit of late depth. Curveball had good armspeed with late sharp 2/8 break to it, pitch flashes swing and miss down. Showed change-up in warmups with good armspeed and heavy fade to it.
