5-foot-11, 180-pound solid sturdy frame. Confident projectable during batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 95 mph. (73.3 mph bat speed average). (21.9 mph hand speed average). Starts in a strong active stance with a compact load, then uses a big leg kick. Bat speed was present explosive, had a short uphill swing plane and high finish. Had loud contact and found multiple barrels. Aggressive approach. Capable confident while in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 79 mph; has a natural exchange, consistent fluid feet, and firm hands. Laterally, movements were quick and fielded the ball out front. Had an-over-the-top slot and a longer quick arm action with decent accuracy to the bag. Clocked a time of 7.47 in the 60-yard dash. On the mound, used a compact consistent arm action and a high ¾ arm angle while showing consistent arm speed. Tilt-and-topple type pitcher who shows some effort. Balance point is tall with an even shoulders during delivery. Lands square with balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 79-81 mph; showed slight sinking action and command decent around the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2292; Avg 2214). Has a 10/4 slider (66-70) that shows late action and occasional down in the zone control. (Max spin 2289; Avg 2022).
PreSeason All-State East
Pope is 5-11 with an athletic frame that has strength present and some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, leg kick stride on line, short load up and back to a slight wrap. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing path, strong at contact with extension through the ball, showed a good approach working gap to gap, generates power to all fields, exit velocity was 97. In the infield, gets body behind the ball and fields with average hands, works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short quick arm action, position velocity was 83. Ran a 7.44 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action and some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 81-83, with some downward angle and a bit of late armside run to it. Curveball was 65-69 with good armspeed and sharp 11/5 break to it. Change-up was 77-78 with good armspeed and some late run to it.
