Vaughan came on in relief and kept things close and allowed Cosby to climb back in. We broke down some things with Vaughan a few weeks ago in a scout blog, but this was a relief appearance which had a little different feel to it. Vaughan is going to pitch at 86-88, especially in a starting role, but in this relief outing he was able to run it up a little and show off the intrigue that the High Point commit offers. The fastball works mainly to the glove side, but the slider plays well off of it and will get some swings and misses out of the zone because they have similar looks. Mainly fastballs on Thursday, but did throw a few nice sliders that got swings and misses. Threw one changeup at 84 that he got around and was wide of the zone. In the seventh inning he was consistently 88-90.

Long projectable frame with lean strength present. Vaughan had a solid start for Cosby on Friday. Three pitch mix with an advanced feel for the changeup. The fastball was 84-85 in the first and trended up in the second. The fastball got up to 87 in the second with effort remaining the same. The fastball had arm side run to both sides of the plate. The slider had two plane action with occasional sweeping shape at 74-77 mph. Showed the ability to throw it consistently for strikes. The changeup, in my opinion, was his best secondary pitch. Threw it consistently for strikes with nice arm speed and the ability to throw it to right-handed and left-handed hitters. The first one he threw the velo was down a bit (74), but every one after that was 78-80 and got it under right handed hitters hands really well. High Point commit.

Vaughan is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has some strength in the lower half and plenty of projection left to it. He throws from a three-quarters arm slot, longer loose lightning quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands square with an athletic finish. Fastball was 86-88, touching 89, with some late sink. Curveball had good armspeed and was 74-78 with late hard 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 78-81 with good armspeed and fade.
