VA/DC PreSeason All-State Central

Whaley is 6-0 with an athletic 181 pound frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, strides on line, loads down and back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, uphill swing path with some strength at contact and extension through the ball, showed a good approach working primarily gap to gap, extra base power in the alleys, generates loft and carry to all fields, exit velocity was 88. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and average hands, works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from low three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 76. Ran a 7.31 60 yard dash. On the mound, he throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, longer free quick arm action and some effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed  with a slight fall off finish and some recoil. Fastball was 79-81, with some downward angle and hard late armside run to it that gets some depth. Slider was 70-75 with good armspeed and sharp 10/4 break to it. Change-up was 74-75 with good armspeed and heavy fade to it.

Whaley is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short load back and down. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Hands stay inside, very quick to the ball, level line drive swing path with strength at contact and extension through the ball, showed a good approach working gap to gap, has natural loft in his swing with gap power present and more in the tank, exit velocity was 88. In the infield, rounds the ball and fields with a wider base and average hands, works through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a sidearm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 73. Ran a 4.28 home to first. On the mound, he throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, breaks long before shortening up to a free quick arm action with normal effort to his delivery. Drop and drive delivery, shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish with some recoil. Fastball was 78-79, with heavy armside run that gets a bit of depth as well. Slider was 70-73 with good armspeed and sharp 10/4 break to it, pitch has some shape. Change-up was 74-75 with good armspeed and hard armside run to it.
