Nelson is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a balanced athletic stance, low leg kick stride on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, quick to the ball, slightly uphill swing with a strong contact point and extension through the ball, power is present, exit velocity was 97. In the infield, gets behind the ball and fields with a wider base and above average hands, works through ball to a clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 77. Ran a 4.57 home to first.
Preseason All-State II
Nelson is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from an athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, loads back to a slight bar, hips rotate completely with some violence, good balance during his swing. Short and quick to the ball, keeps hands inside, slightly uphill swing path with a strong contact point and good extension through the ball, showed good approach working the middle of the field, swing has some natural loft and power in the gaps, potential to add more power, exit velocity was 93. In the outfield, gets body behind ball and fields off to side with average hands. Works through ball, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 76. Ran a 4.31 home to first.
