Comments
Howat throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth easy delivery and very little effort. Fastball was 77-80 and he held his velocity all game and in the stretch. Pitch had some plane and late run to it. He commanded it well to both sides of the plate, and showed the ability to attack inside on righthanded hitters with confidence. Curveball had sharp 1/7 break and was 65-70. He varied the velocity and the pitch broke harder at the higher end of that range, which he mostly reached for with two strikes. He also showed the ability to throw this pitch for a strike and to bury it on the back foot of righties with confidence. Very high pitchability and feel for his stuff, still has plenty of projection to a lankier frame.
6.27.17: Howat is 6-0 with a lanky frame, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. Short, loose arm action that is quick, easier effort to his delivery. Shoulders are closed and downhill, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish, classic lefty crossfire. Fastball sat 80-83 with good angle and late sink to it. Very good curveball with late, sharp 2/8 break at 72-73 and good armspeed. Showed change-up in warmups with some armspeed and a bit of fade to it.
