2022 OF Shaun Cottrell (Mountain Ridge)- 5-foot-10 167-pounds, large build, athletic body, balanced frame, some quick twitch athleticism. Worked out as a two-way player. Left-handed hitter, sets up in a crouched stance with a sturdy squared base, uses a small pick with some forward movement to create leverage, limited weight shift. Starts with a slightly higher handset, loading to back shoulder height. Short level swing, turns early at times, creating pull-approach, mostly LD contact with above average bat speed. Athletic footwork, direct to the ball, above average quickness, ran a 6.92 60-yard dash while making good jumps on the base paths. Kept feet moving in OF, creating above average momentum with step behind. Short quick arm with 89mph arm strength. Pitches out of the stretch with an easy athletic delivery. Simple procedure, creating easy direction to home plate with natural arm strength. Short arm action with lower release height, early torso rotation. FB worked 80-84mph with solid command & arm side run, average 2210 rpm. Mixed in a SL that averaged 20in of HM which has a chance to be a plus pitch with added intent. CH played above average with sink & lower spin. Solid 3-pitch mix.
Medium build at 5’8” 141lbs, two way player with immature body and some present athleticism, working primarily from the stretch with easy shorter arm action, has an above average CV that he located well, hides the ball well, strike thrower with FB at 76-87mph, left handed hitter with simple repeatable approach, LD swing plane with minimal separation, has athleticism to play OF and runs decent at 7.07, interesting player to follow as he physically matures.
