3/25/25
Starting on a varsity squad as a freshman is no easy feat, and Aiden Sun did just that last year, so the sky’s the limit heading into his sophomore campaign. Safe to say, he’s been meeting those expectations to start the 2025 season. In a matchup versus Torrey Pines, Sun had the tough task of facing Brody Martin, and yet still managed to stand out as the Nighthawks’ only real source of offense. He went 2-for-3 at the plate with a hard-run infield single and a homerun to deep left-center, driving in Del Norte’s lone run of the game. The sophomore has been producing at the plate all season, batting .316, but what really surprised me during this look was his appearance on the mound. Given one inning of relief, Sun came in and threw a clean fifth, not allowing a hit or walk while working a FB/SL/CB mix. His fastball sat 78–79 mph, but I believe his curveball, which sat 68–69 mph with heavy drop, will become his go-to pitch as it flashed some heavy whiff potential and really stood out during the outing. Aiden Sun is definitely a name to track, not just for what he’s doing now, but for what he could become in the years ahead.
