10-24-2018:
Large frame with proportional strength throughout and high waist showing length in arms/legs; mature build showing strength and athleticism. On the mound stands tall with glove covering his face before dropping hands to waist and back up mid chest prior to front knee lift. Looks down on knee lift before eyes start to pick up target as hands separate and arm gets out of glove cleanly with a longer action; very quick and loose arm getting to release point consistently as he repeats his motion and arm swing well. Shorter front leg stride with times where front toe will land closed and landing in heel causing some hip lock and times of crossfire action; finishes with angle over stiff front leg. Fastball 88-91 mph showed average with ability to have ball jump on hitters and look faster than stated velocity; pitch flashed angle to lower half of zone but was generally straight with life up through the zone. Slider 83-85 mph with flashes of above average action; late bite to glove side with small depth showing angle in pitch and feel for it. Was able to change the shape to look like tight, late breaking curveball down with 1-to-7 actions and ability to throw pitch to multiple spots or back to back in sequence with more/less depth as needed; a pitch that was his go to when needing to put hitters away. Changeup 80-82 mph flashed average showing short sink while mimicking the FB path; inconsistent feel in outing but showed confidence in pitch and ability to use when behind for a strike.
Offensively stands relaxed with a slightly open stance and the bat resting on the back shoulder showing lower hands and relaxed elbows. On load the hands work back directly with slight foot lift as he coils around back hip; hands stay in time with the lower half as back shoulder holds load allowing hands to fire together with back hip. Hands work directly to the ball with barrel showing late drag before finishing upwards creating easy loft to all parts of the field. Above average bat speed driving through the zone matched in batting practice with easy raw power deep to the pull side of the field; last round of BP was filled with some big-time power into LCF. Tripled over center fielders head in game on ball that continued to carry showing strength in swing. Legit two-way player; named Conference Player of the Year last year as Pitcher and Hitter. (Ozella)
