Event: NorCal Uncommitted Games
Positional Profile: 1B/RHP
Physical: 6-0, 187-pounds; Strength spread throughout from shoulders to legs, well-proportioned; 7.46 60-yard, 19.6” max jump height.
Offensively: RH. EV max – 95.1 mph, hand speed max – 20.00 mph, bat speed max – 75.3 mph; Has ability to make consistent contact within his approach, has feel for barrel as evidenced by 63% hard hit % (balls hit over 90 mph), has shown 100.7 as best EV, in two events has averaged 62.5% sweet spot % (balls launched 8-32 degrees), off plate, feet just outside shoulders, barrel resting over shoulder in early set-up, small knee lift out to small stride, creates physical swing with easy effort, spends energy through contact which routinely produces hard hit balls.
Defensively: 1B mph – 76; Calm set-up, methodical to the ball without being slow, reads well, focused through the play, sets up at bag with right foot as an anchor which can limit mobility to errant throws, hands work well, throws generally underway quickly and in a spot for MIF to make a play as needed.
Delivery: Deep rocker prep step moving to 1B side of rubber, rhythmic into lift/gather with some tempo, slightly cross-body stride, swings back side through, some drift through plant leg altering his leverage, has body control and athleticism, quiet head, upright finish.
Arm Action: Compact on backside, controls arm swing, some high elbow hinge before starting forward, gets to 3/4 release, minimal recoil after deceleration.
FB: T82.8 mph, 80.7-82.7 mph range, 2021 max spin; Displayed above average horizontal movement with ability to pitch up in the zone.
CB: 67-68 mph, 1983 max spin; Lowers slot a fair amount off the FB look, wide sweeping breaking ball.
SL: 71-72 mph, 1982 max spin; Similar attributes to CB though smaller lateral action and near identical depth.
CH: Showed in warm-ups but not in live ABs, traditional glove side feel, came out of hand cleanly.
NorCal State Games ID: BAT TALENT is what stood out, to go along with a good arm at the 1B position. With a high EV of 100.7 and average of 97.6, those are numbers that should and will draw attention from colleges looking for a corner bat in the 2023 class. The hand speed is there and the bat speed is plenty above average (peak 75.8), bordering on plus. Lots of sweet spot contact as well (88%). A fastball up to 83 mph and a respectable 60 yard at 7.38, there is a lot to like now and in his future. We do see a fair amount of 100+ EVs... but not THAT many.
