Entering the game in the 6th, with 1 out and a runner on 1st, Pendleton immediately went into attack mode, throwing his first 8 pitches for strikes and finishing the inning with a groundout and a K swinging. Pendleton would return in the 7th and shut the door to record the save, finishing with a final line of 1.2 IP, 1 H, 4 K, 0 BB, and 0 R. On the mound, Pendleton displays good stuff and a solid strike-throwing ability (23 of 32 pitches for strikes). Pitching with a high ¾ slot and a whip-like arm action, Pendleton utilizes his lower half well, with his fastball coming out of the hand hot (87-90 MPH, T91 MPH). The FB shows good ride/life at the top of the zone, generating several whiffs and also showing some arm-side run. Pendleton’s secondary options consisted of a CH (80-82 MPH), SL (76-80 MPH), and a CB (72-75 MPH), going to them often late in counts. Pendleton’s SL appeared to be the secondary offering he was most comfortable with, throwing it both in the zone for called strikes and to get chase from RHH. The CH was used primarily to LHH, showing good arm-side fade. Pendleton didn’t go to the CB too often, but it did show some solid vertical break and could be used more often in starts/when the lineup turns over. At the plate, Pendleton made the most of his lone plate appearance, working a full count walk and displaying a selective approach. With a solid 4-pitch mix and an ability to throw all 4 pitches for strikes, the Cal Poly commit has the potential to either start or be a fireman out of the pen at the next level.
