Coming into the matchup against Patrick Henry, Tsai had a record of 3-0 this spring and a career record of 7-1 since joining varsity with the Knights in 2024. He added to that with an impressive start in game 1 of the Lions Tournament. He tossed 6.2 innings with 3 ER allowed and was one 1 out away from getting a complete game win before he gave up a game tying hit that ended his outing. Overall though, he threw the ball well and was in control for the majority of his start. He really made only one mistake on the day, when he gave up a two run homer in the 4th. He ended up settling with a No-Decision but it should not take away from how productive he was in his 108 pitches. He attacked hitters with a heavy FB/CB combo and was able to keep them off balance and create a lot of weak contact and missed barrels. He sat 81-83 mph with his FB and was not afraid to fill it up in the strike zone and dare hitters to hit it. Due to the fact that he attacked with his 12/6 CB (63-66 mph) so frequently, his FB appeared to have some extra life behind it from the change of speeds. He induced a number of ground ball outs throughout and picked up a lot of big strikeouts in high pressure situations. He finished with 8 strikeouts and I really liked how he bared down with RISP and added some extra life with his stuff to pick up timely punch outs. He mixed in some arm side fading CHs as well to give PH hitters another look aside from his FB/CB tunnel. Tsai has an ERA of 1.15 in 2025 and is a huge reason why San Marcos is 6-2 this spring and really starting to hit their stride as a ball club.
