2/27/25

Coming into this game, the Sophomore shortstop was slashing a .545/.688/.727 through 4 games and he continued to show why people should keep their eyes on him. In the second inning and a 2-2 ball game, Mattoon crushed his first home run of the year. This 2 run shot came off a 1-0 heater that he pulled to deep left center. Although the 2-run shot stood as Mattoon’s only hit on the day, he took some good looking hacks and was making contact and putting the ball hard in play when he swung. His approach stood out as he carried himself with a lot of maturity, especially for a Sophomore. Coming off a .307/.412/.400 Freshman campaign, he is poised for another big year where he looks to continue to turn heads as one of California’s top 2027 prospects.
