This was my second live look at the wiry athletic 6'3 190 lbs. LHH INF defender out of the SoCal region who has been very strong in each of those looks. This opportunity gave me a chance to see a little more depth on him with the pre-game workout and lengthy in-game look.
An easy operator in the LH batters box with a smooth turn from a quiet set up that features minimal load. He has present bat speed with a feel to use the whole field, but has loft with carry to the pull side during BP. He did have some inconsistency during batting practice, but when he was on the barrel the impact is present to the profile. He worked out at 2B and played there during the game looking strong on that side of the dirt with range, feet/hands, arm strength and instincts, but has shown well previously on the left side at SS/3B.
His in-game performance was a step above the solid showing he put together during the workout. His first at bat he jumped on a elevated FB Kody Smathers staying inside the ball with leverage to drive it to LCF with carry for an easy standup double. During his second trip to the plate he got a FB on the outer half of the plate from Bobby Mahoney and stayed inside it again with a quick swing to shoot a one-hop GB into LF for a single and eventually would show his solid present run tool stealing 3B. Before wrapping up his day drawing a walk against Kai Bratton where he didn't get a chance to swing the bat. As well, on the defensive side he was clean including a solid play where he ranged to his left and made a diving on a hard groundball off the bat of Judah Ota.
Flemming is a Vanderbilt commit who shows an interesting LHH offensive profile that is on the rise and adds versatility to the defensive profile. Adding strength to his frame will be a key part of seeing where the ceiling for Flemming eventually settles, but I like the direction he is heading.
