Watching Pettey throw never ceases to amaze me up here, the kid can flat out pitch. From first glance, he’s got the prototypical pitcher's frame and then you start to notice how well he can change up leg times, control the run game, and command the stroke zone with all of his pitches. His velocity rarely drops and can pitch later in the games, always giving his team a chance to win. The whole game Pettey was dominant dicing up hitters left and right from the Eagles seasoned lineup. Pettey’s fastball was coming out the hand heavy with the ability to show and go up in the zone causing some hitters to chase the whole plate. The FB was sitting between 89-91 MPH T92, this is the 3rd time I’ve seen Pettey and it's about as consistent as it's going to get with him. Pettey’s slider was dancing off of his FB, had some really sharp bite that was difficult to lay off. Pettey’s final line on the day was five innings pitched, gave up no runs with two walks, and struck out 10 batters. The pitch count got high towards the end so I’m sure he would have kept going but it’s still early enough in the year. Whitney has quality vetted arms, but they are going to need to figure out a way to finish the game.
Corden Pettey is off to an impressive start of the ‘25 high school season. Pettey’s line was four and one-third of an inning, giving up only one hit, two runs (one earned), and striking out nine.
The starter for Whitney put on a show on the mound for the Wildcats for the first game of the year. Pettey’s fastball was running up to 92 MPH, while sitting between 88-91 MPH, did an excellent job of mixing both sides of the plate with the heater, and mixing in the SL that had hitters swinging through. Pettey went three innings with five K’s, only one walk, and no hits. The fastball is only going to get better as he matures as a pitcher. Ultimate competitor when Pettey steps on the mound, knows how to control the tempo of the game.
