Fien, a Texas commit, made an immediate impact for Great Oak, recording the team’s first hit of the game with a hard line drive single up the middle before showcasing his speed by stealing two bags in the 1st. A strong and athletic shortstop at 6-2, 195lbs, he combines defensive soundness with fluid actions and an accurate arm, making him a reliable presence up the middle. Coming off an outstanding season in which he hit .411 with three home runs, 20 RBIs, and 12 doubles, Fien has proven to be a dynamic offensive threat. His blend of strength, speed, and defensive ability makes him a high-upside prospect with the tools to excel at the next level.

In a day full of highly talented players there has to be one player who seems to rise above the rest to be the top talent of the day and for me the Inland Empire product Fien took the opportunity this event provided and ran with it. A solidly built 6'3 200 lbs. frame with athleticism to his actions he showed very well during the pre-game BP/INF-OF and carried that into the game. Fien starts from a taller posture in the box with a slightly closed set up and his hands set near his head above ear height with looseness in the hands. During BP he showed an athletic operation in the box with quiet simple load that takes a short stride as the hands lower into the launch position and he stays relatively taller in his posture using his hips and hands in the turn of the swing (scissor kicks at times with back foot). There is fast present bat speed with a swing path that generated loft and carry throughout during BP showing the raw power present in his profile (which plays in game, as well) and a consistent feel for finding the barrel throughout BP. On the defensive side he worked out in RF where his arm plays well, but once he came on the INF dirt for GBs his actions with the hands/feet and present arm strength/accuracy giving SS potential vibes with a fallback to 3B (most likely determined by future maturity to body/athleticism). He showed the arm strength to go backhand at SS and make a long throw with low carry into the chest of the 1B while also being able to play on the run with accuracy to his throws. In game he had the loudset hit of the day as he turned around a mistake from talented '27 LHP on a FB out over the plate that he rocketed into the trees in LCF for a HR, then was able to elevate two more balls with loud contact just missing a potential 2nd HR on a high lofted flyball to LF and a deep drive to RCF that ended up on the warning track. As well, in his first at bat he showed a sound 2K approach staying on a CB from Angel Cervantes with 2K to hit a groundball to second base to advance Slate de Brun who opened the inning with a double and scored on another ground out after that. His lone average at bat was GB out to the left side, but showed his solid athleticism as he got down the line quickly with body control (I missed a run time on it) being thrown out by one step. As well, on the defensive side he played sound defense at SS/3B which included a solid play in the 5-6 hole where he beat a 2-hopper to the spot quickly redirected it with his feet and threw a strike to the 1B to nail a LHH running well down the line. Fien is a Texas commit who currently ranks #52 on the Prep Baseball Draft HQ Top 150 Draft Board.
