Positional Profile: RHP
Body: 6-8, 225-pounds. Large frame, body has presence, well-proportioned, going to be a big man.
Delivery: Impressive body control given his height and long levers, wide rocker step while dragging post foot along the rubber, chest high knee lift, in-line stride, fants plant foot upon foot strike, has rhythm.
Arm Action: RH. Compact backside with circular arm swing, high-3/4 slot, smooth easy arm.
FB: T84, 80-83 mph. Mostly straight with feel around the zone, long extension plays up the velo a bit, there is another velo jump coming in future.
SL: 69-71 mph. Traditional shape, mostly lateral break, minimal depth, smooth action.
CH: 72-75 mph. Straight change, sells it fairly well off FB look, modest change of pace pitch.
Bay Area World Series 2020 (BAWS) - Uncommitted; Generally speaking, very tall/young pitchers struggle w/feel for the zone. In this outing Sayers showed there are exceptions to scouting generalities as he pounded the zone, got the FB up to 84 (81-83) w/an easy arm action, mixed in a solid SL (69-73). His improvement from last year shows an impressively positive development trend.
BAWS 2019 - XL full long frame with lower waist; still young with chance to shape frame more. Hands stay at waist through side step with limited front leg lift; has slight tuck as he lifts leg tilting weight over toes. Good brace from front leg with shoulders following hips; body control can improve. Arm is long out of the glove casting to 3/4 release point with early pronation. FB 70-73 T75 staying mainly glove side. SLD 68-71 loose with sweeping actions off the plate gloveside; showed flashes of feel early in the counts. Control needs improvement.
