Mathias had a day going 3-3 (HR, 2B, 1B) with 3 RBI. It was my first look at the Rochester commit and he consistently makes hard contact with a pull-heavy swing/approach. Mathias has a physical frame with more room for growth, especially at the next level if he wants to stick at C. His offensive ability to hit for XBH and be a middle of an order hitter at the next level is a real possibility thanks to his raw power behind his violent swing. His violent swing starts with his strong lower half and big leg kick. When rotating he flashes a strong core staying behind that front leg when landing. His bat path consistently creates lift as Mathias is a hitter that consistently gets extension, and he does a great job at staying level through the zone long enough. His upper body stays towards CF, but his front shoulder can slightly pull off a bit much leaving him prone to pitches and offspeed on the outer half. Overall Mathias has a strong offensive profile and he is an aggressive hitter that looks to do damage at the plate.
