Viola’s smaller, 5-foot-8, 140-pound frame did not impact his ability to stand out for the West Coast Blackdogs 14U team even without seeing the results he may have wanted. The right-handed hitter was robbed of a line drive single by Caranto at shortstop, but showcased quick hands and a short path. He sets up open before squaring off with a smoother load, and has present spray line drive power. I enjoyed watching him move around at shortstop where his glove work was clean and confident, and his leadership qualities might have been my favorite part of his all-around game. He had a competitive-intensity that will only help drive him to continue getting better throughout his high school career.
