Strong physical frame at 6-foot-2, 205-pounds. Open athletic stance with direct leg lift and stride, lands square, and hands load back in rhythm. Displayed hand and bat speed while getting through the zone with a swing that had a slightly uphill path. Swings with a ton of intent and some pull side tendency. Looks to do damage at all times and has the physical strength and tools to do so. Exit velocity was 92 mph. Defensively Merlan displayed solid glove presentation to catch, lets glove work freely outside the body, and a double tap clean exchange.
